Writer & editor intern wanted
We need a tech-savvy, fun-lovin’, super organized news nut with a gift for writing. Is it you?
We’re looking for one amazing boy or girl to join our crusade and take our writing up a notch.
What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for the editorial direction of Firesit and will be helping with community projects. Specifically, you’ll be writing and editing our daily posts (unearthing amazing events people are involved, coming up with awesome photo and video additions, recruiting and working with contributors), writing for our twitter, building and interacting with our community on Facebook and Twitter, and planning community events.
Because you’re writing for the web, you’ll also be looking at web stats daily to identify trends and make decisions about what to write about, and forming relationships with bloggers and press to help spread the word about what we’re doing.
Why this rocks
We have daily growing visitors and subscribers and a community that loves us, so your work will be seen far and wide. You’ll also get to learn all about marketing and spreading ideas online, and spend your days researching and writing up amazing stuff!
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone to whom this opportunity sounds like a dream come true. Someone who’s a fast, creative writer and ruthless editor. Someone fun who’s also extremely driven, disciplined, optimistic, and has stellar follow-through. Someone who’s social-media savvy, able to juggle multiple tasks without breaking a sweat, and quick to learn new things. Someone who eats trends and web stats for breakfast and has a knack for finding the coolest photo and video stuff.
Experience
It’s a plus if you have prior online writing and editing experience, if you’re already on twitter, flickr, tumblr, and have managed a community or worked with social media before. If you’ve run a blog, marshaled multiple contributors, and shown editorial leadership, we want to know about it.
Where? When? How much?
This is a part-time unpaid intern opening (20 hours/week). For the right person, we want it to be a full-time paid position. It starts as soon as we find you.
How to Apply
1) Write us a note and tell us why you’re the one.
2) Attach a resume, links to your profile on facebook, twitter, flickr, your blog, whatever.
3) Take a look at Firesit archives and get a sense for what we write about, then send us at least five ideas for things you would write about…We’re looking for you to build on our vision while breaking new ground.
Send it here: firesit (at) gmail.com
